Laughing All the Way: Winnipeg Comics Who Won the Winnipeg's Funniest Person Contest

One of Winnipeg’s favorite summertime events is just around the corner — that’s right, Rumor’s Comedy Club presents the Winnipeg’s Funniest Person with a Day Job Contest! It’s the summertime slug-fest where aspiring young (and old) comics test their metal on the Rumor’s stage.

Many past winners of the contest have gone on to bigger and better things, and this week we’re highlighting some of the past winners who’ve taken things up a notch. So, if you have stars in your eyes and steel for you-know-what, the Funniest Person with a Day Job contest could be the first step to a career in comedy, like it was for these hilarious Winnipeggers.

Winnipeg’s Funniest Hall of Fame

There are tons of comedians from Winnipeg making waves right now, and a lot of them got their start during the annual Rumor’s contest. So, sign up today and you could become a part of Winnipeg comedy history like these funny cats:

Aisha Alfa

The charismatic and sneakily saucy Aisha Alfa cut her teeth on the Rumor’s stage, winning the contest in 2011. And she hasn’t looked back.

In 2020, Aisha released her debut album, All the Parts on Bill Burr’s record label, All Things Comedy, and in 2023 she appeared in a recurring role on the Kaley Cuoco comedy thriller, Based on a True Story.

But that certainly wasn’t Aisha’s first foray into television. She’s appeared on Criminal Minds, Degrassi: Next Class, The Beaverton, Royal Canadian Air Farce, and Much Music’s Video on Trial.

Spencer Adamus

The winner of the 2017 edition of the Winnipeg’s Funniest Person contest Spencer Adamus, who, over the years, has established himself as one of the best stand-up comedians in Winnipeg — and Canada, for that matter.

Since taking home the title, Spencer has appeared in all the major Just For Laughs festivals in the country, and recently appeared on the new Fibe TV sketch comedy show, Big Small Town.

Mike Green

Mike Green is a staple of the Winnipeg stand-up comedy scene, and it all started in 2009 when he captured the Winnipeg’s Funniest Person title in just his first year of comedy. Wowza!

Mike has built on his early success, appearing at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal back in 2022TK, as well as producing and hosting his own Fibe TV comedy game show entitled Comedy Battle Royale.

Angie St. Mars

Our 2018 Funniest Person winner was Angie St. Mars. Angie has toured all across Canada, and is the spooky host of Fibe TV’s Ghost Kitchens, a cooking contest reality show judged by g-g-g-GHOSTS! It’s a quirky show, just like the quirky comic, herself.

Andy Noble

He’s a regular headliner here at Rumor’s, and this past year Winnipeg comedian Andy Noble released his debut stand-up album entitled Prairie Fire with Vancouver’s 604 Records. It easily ranks among the best comedy recordings from Winnipeg comedians, which is not surprising seeing as Andy ranked number one in the Funniest Person with a Day Job Contest back in 2015.
