A Visitor's Guide to Winnipeg
Summertime is upon us, and this is the best time to come visit Winnipeg. From our awesome urban parks, to our top-notch museums, to our world-class stand-up comedy Winnipeg has tons of fun stuff for everyone.
The Manitoba capital is at its best when the sun is out, and lots of travelers have discovered the hidden gem that is Winnipeg. So, if you’re planning a trip to The Peg, Rumor’s Comedy Club — the best damned comedy club in Winnipeg — has compiled this guide for people traveling to Winnipeg.
What to do when visiting Winnipeg
Winnipeg is a vibrant major city with a small town vibe. We’ve got everything you could possibly want, and the friendliest people you could possibly meet. So, let’s get to it.
Food, deserts, and drinks
Winnipeg has one of the highest restaurants per capita on the continent, and we’re not just talking about McDonald's. No, Winnipeg has an outstanding culinary tradition with several notable restaurants and bistros that every out-of-towner should try, such as:
Clementine. A tapas-style brunch destination in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District. You can get waffles and benedicts, and wash them down with an artisanal coffee, mimosa, or freshly squeezed juice.

Chaeban. An award-winning local ice creamery, Chaeban offers a variety of unique flavors like Ana Bananutella, Kiki Lime, and Donnie Darcocoa. And if you’re having trouble choosing just one, you can get yourself an ice cream flight featuring your choice of four different flavors.

Thom Bargen. Sit down for a nice cuppa joe at Thom Bargen Coffee Roasters. Located in Winnipeg’s up-and-coming West Broadway neighborhood, you can enjoy whatever frappa-cappa-concoction you heard your cool older sister order once.

Arts and entertainment
Winnipeg’s performing arts scene is world-renown! Here’s just a few examples of the awesome entertainment in the 204.
Rumor’s. The best comedy club in Winnipeg, Rumor’s is celebrating 40 years of business in the YWG. Rumor’s brings in the top touring comics from around the world, and our hosts are some of the best Winnipeg comedians around. Check out our up-coming events list to see all the comedians coming to Winnipeg in 2024.

Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Canada’s oldest ballet company, the RWB has been in operation since 1939. The RWB is the first ballet company to receive royal designation, which it gained in 1953 from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. With a roster of 66 players, the WSO is a cultural gem in Winnipeg. The orchestra plays an average of 80 concerts a year, including a pops series and the popular Night at the Movies series, in which a movie is screened along with the Orchestra’s live score accompaniment.

Parks and attractions
Winnipeg has some wonderful outdoor attractions to help you take advantage of the summer sun. Check it out:
Assiniboine Park. Winnipeg’s largest urban green space, Assiniboine Park is host to a number of attractions such as the Assiniboine Park Zoo, the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, The Leaf, the Children’s Nature and Adventure Playground, and the Assiniboine Park Pavilion and Theatre.

Kildonan Park. Another fantastic public green space, Kildonan Park has tons of space to stop and have a picnic and catch some rays. It is also home to Winnipeg’s Rainbow Stage, and Prairie’s Edge Restaurant.

The Forks. Located in downtown Winnipeg where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet, the Forks is the cradle of Winnipeg history. The Forks features a number of restaurants, snack vendors, and gift shops, and plays host to live outdoor entertainment and public art displays.

Take a day trip
Want to explore the surrounding area? There are a number of awesome Winnipeg day-trips that we highly recommend. Here’s a few:
Gimli. With the largest Icelandic population in the world outside of Iceland, Gimli is a town with a character all its own. Summertime is the right time to visit, too, as the town plays host to both the Gimli Film Festival and Islendingadagurinn, aka the Gimli Icelandic Festival.

Brandon. The city of Brandon is the second largest city in Manitoba with all the creature comforts you’ve come to expect from urban living. There’s family activities like mini golf or a VR arcade, sporty activities like skating, golf, and hiking, and grown-up activities like concerts and taverns. Really, they have it all — except for a comedy club.

Grand Beach. Along the shores of Lake Winnipeg — Canada’s sixth-largest lake — you’ll find Grand Beach, an absolute beauty of a white sand beach. The beach extends for such distances that you can probably show your friends a picture and say you were in Florida or something.
