
40 for 40: Forty Facts About Rumor's Comedy Club
We recently announced our 40th anniversary show which will feature some of our favourite headliners over the past 40 years. To celebrate our ruby anniversary, here’s a list of 40 facts about Rumor’s Comedy Club.
- 1. Rumor’s was founded in 1984. That’s right, Rumor’s Comedy Club has been in operation since the early ‘80s. Back then we were located beneath a restaurant called Gallagher’s. Gallagher’s is gone, but Rumor’s lives on!

- 2. Jerry Seinfeld performed at Rumor’s back in 1985. That’s right, Jerry-freaking-Seinfeld graced our stage and asked Winnipeg audiences “what’s the deal with” things long before he hooked up with George, Elaine, and Kramer.

- 3. Rumor’s used to be a bank. Yep, local businesses used to frequent the basement of 2025 Corydon Ave to do business. Now locals make the same trip to partake in some funny business.
- 4. We’re one of the top comedy clubs in North America. Not only is Rumor’s the best comedy club in Winnipeg, but our club is a mainstay on many lists of the best comedy clubs in North America, along with big names like the Comedy Cellar in New York and the Comedy Store in L.A.
- 5. Stars like to drop in at Rumor’s when they're in town. Winnipeg attracts big movie productions with our vibrant film industry. And when movie stars are in town, they like to hit up Rumor’s for some much needed laughs. We’ll never forget the night that Bob Odenkirk and Christopher Lloyd stopped by to see Tom Green Perform. Or the time Kaitlin OlsenTK popped in while AB Farely hit the stage for a surprise drop-in set.

- 7. Rumor’s hosts wedding socials. We wouldn’t be very good Winnipeggers if we didn’t host wedding socials. We offer a unique alternative to the traditional wedding social. Couples that have their wedding social at Rumor’s love that they don’t have to worry about securing liquor licences, buying alcohol, providing food, or printing tickets. - 8. Rumor’s is home to the Winnipeg’s Funniest Person with a Day Job contest. We’re proud of our connections to the local comedy scene, and our biggest contribution is the Funniest Person with a Day Job contest for local amateur comedians. Many of Winnipeg’s best comics got their start at our contest, which awards the winner $1,000 and a trip to perform at the Laugh Shop in Calgary.

- 9. We offer private bookings for corporate functions and fundraisers. If you’re planning a fun night for your staff, or if you’re raising funds for a good cause, give us a call and we can provide you with a hilarious comedy show for your function.
- 10. We’ve partnered with the Winnipeg Comedy Fest and the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival. This year we’re beyond proud to be partnered with the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival who are bringing in some of our favourite past Rumor’s headliners, namely Tom Segura and Nate Bargatze. We’re also the host of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival Club Series, where festival patrons can see WCF comics in an intimate club setting.
- 11. We’re big supporters of local charities. In addition to working with local groups to throw their own fundraisers, Rumor’s also offers a Harvest Manitoba pack of 20 tickets at $5 a piece with all proceeds going to Harvest Manitoba.
- 12. Rumor’s is wheelchair accessible. Yes, we’re located in a basement, but we are fully accessible!
- 13. Rumor’s has season tickets. New this year, we’re offering season ticket packages. It was such a success this year that we’re all sold out, but keep your eyes and ears peeled for next year’s batch!

- 14. Rumor’s donates to wedding socials and fundraisers. If you’re looking for something to pad the silent auction for your wedding social or fundraiser, give us a call at 204-488-4520. We’d love to help you out!
- 15. We’re a full restaurant with a great menu. We’ve got wraps, wings, chicken burgers, pizzas, and so much more on our menu. Plus we have a massive drink list including 4 non-alcoholic beer options. There’s truly something for everyone!
- 16. Rumor’s is home of the Birthday Club. Getting older is a laughing matter here at Rumor’s. Join the Birthday Club, and you can get ticket discounts and a nice little gift from us.
- 17. We do bachelor and bachelorette parties. Say goodbye to single life laughing all the way by having your bachelor party at Rumor’s. The groom or bride-to-be will get free entry and their pals will get a discount entry. Call us for details at 204-488-4520.
- 18. We bring in big names. While we love bringing in up-and-coming comedic talent, our real specialty is our Concert Series with some of the most recognizable names in stand-up comedy. We’ve had some very recognizable headliners on our stage, and we’re bringing in more and more every year.

- 19. Norm Macdonald called Rumor’s the best comedy club in Canada. What an honour!

- 20. Several comedy albums have been recorded at Rumor's. Our club has gained such a great reputation that many stand-up comedians have chosen to record their comedy albums right here, like fan favourite, Kelly Taylor, and K. Trevor Wilson from Letterkenny.

Show them that you’ve got a great sense of humour by bringing them to Rumor’s. We offer our Date Night package on Thursdays. You’ll get two tickets to the show, a bottle of wine, and an appetiser for just $75.
- 22. You can book your holiday party at Rumor's.The Holiday season is always a rockin’ time here at Rumor’s. Many businesses choose to have their staff get-togethers at Rumor’s rather than having to deal with hall rentals, liquor licences, and food.
- 23. Rumor’s has a selfie wall. What better way to cap off an evening of laughs than by getting a selfie at our selfie wall in the Rumor’s lobby. Just watch out that a comedian doesn’t photobomb your perfect post-show pic.

- 24. You can find many Rumor’s regulars on TV. So many of the comedians that perform at Rumor’s can be found on television, from our very own Jordan Welwood (Roast Battle Canada), to touring headliners like Dan Soder (Billions).

- 25. Rumor’s is legendary among comedians. Wherever you go, if you mention that you’re from Winnipeg comedians will invariably respond with a jovial “RUMOR’S!!!!” We’re known for our great audiences and world-class live comedy experience.
- 26. Rumor’s had a video podcast before it was cool. Yep, way back in 2014 we had the Rumor’s Comedycast featuring many comedians who went on to become big names in stand-up comedy, like Andrew Schulz, Sam Morril, and Nate Bargatze.
- 27. You can give Rumor’s as a gift. What do you get the person who laughs at everything? How ‘bout Rumor’s gift cards?
- 28. Rumor’s is one of the longest tenants at Tuxedo Park Shopping Center which opened in 1962.

- 29. Our nachos are legendary. Stacked with tomatoes, onions, black olives, jalapenos, shredded cheese, with a side of sour cream and salsa, and optional chicken, bacon, and extra cheese. It is unfinishable.

- 30. The Rumor’s lobby is full of headshots from legendary stand ups who’ve performed here. Fans and comics love to scan the wall for their favourite comedians, like Mark Normand, Chris Rock, Deb Digiovanni, and many, many more.

- 31. Rumor’s doesn't just host stand-up comedy. We’ve had a variety of different humorous acts on our stage from hypnotists like The Incredible Boris, to magicians like Piff the Magic Dragon, to sketch comedy groups like HUNKS.
- 32. Rumor’s has awesome weekday deals. You can get a great deal on just about any weekday, like Two-for-One Tuesday, Date Night Thursday, and Wrap Wednesday.

- 33. Rumor’s has toques! Keep your head warm and show the world that you have a great sense of humour at the same time. Just ask someone at the front desk to see styles and prices.
- 34. Rumor’s has free parking. Don’t you hate it when you drive to a show or a restaurant and you spend 15 minutes looking for a spot, and then end up paying an extra $20 for parking? That’s never a problem at Rumor’s. We have plenty of free parking at our venue.
- 35. We have the best local comedians as emcees. While we’re proud to bring in the best touring stand-up headliners in North America, we’re equally proud that our emcees are some of the best comedians in Winnipeg.
- 36. Rumor’s uses air purification technology to ensure a healthy environment for everybody. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our club invested in two air purification units, like the kind that are used in hospitals.
- 37. Rumor’s is the oldest comedy club in Winnipeg. With 40 hilarious years under our belts, Rumor’s is far and away the longest serving comedy club in Manitoba.

- 39. Sometimes the Winnipeg Jets stop by Rumor’s. Sometimes, after a long day of getting body-checked and high-sticked all you can do is laugh it off.

- 40. The Rumor’s showroom is a veritable comedy Hall of Fame. The walls of our showroom are decorated with photos of some of the biggest names in comedy when they performed in that very room, and toward the back of the showroom we have a mural featuring our all-time favourite Rumor’s headliners.
