Things to do in Winnipeg this weekend - January 19–21, 2024
With the temperatures dropping in Winnipeg, many of us have hunkered down in the warmth and comfort of home. But, if cabin fever is starting to set in, don’t worry, because Rumor’s Comedy Club — the best comedy club in Winnipeg — has all the info you need to get out of the house and into the groove.
So, if you’re looking for things to do in Winnipeg this weekend, read on. You’re sure to find something to break up the winter blahs.
Saturday Afternoon Jazz

This Saturday, you can catch some toe tappin’, finger poppin’ tunes at Silver Heights Restaurant and Lounge. The St. James mainstay, known for its rack of ribs, transforms into a casual afternoon jazz venue featuring the best local jazz musicians Winnipeg has to offer, such as Marcie Campbell, Dave Hildebrand, and Neil Watson.
Saturday Afternoon Jazz runs from 1–4 PM, so you can still make dinner plans with friends, and hit the town that night.
Winnipeg 150 Winter Park

The city of Winnipeg celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, and what better way to pay homage to the winter wonderland we call home than by dedicating a winter park to the festivities.
Located at The Forks, the Winnipeg 150 Winter Park features a full kilometer of overland groomed and lit skating trails, a canopy covered skating rink, and the picturesque Prairie Garden Archway, all set to a playlist curated by Manitoba Music.
The Winnipeg 150 Winter Park is free and open all weekend long.
Guided snowshoe tour

Looking for a uniquely Winnipeg experience? How ‘bout a guided snowshoe tour?
Strap on the ol’ tennis racket shoes and set off with a trained guide and interpreter who will teach you all about the trails, and the plants and animals that inhabit the area.
You can take part in guided snowshoe tours at Fort Whyte Alive on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12 noon, or at Oak Hammock Marsh on Sunday from 2 PM to 3 PM.
Afternoon Jets game

Our league leading (at the time of writing) Winnipeg Jets are back in action on Saturday, as they visit the Ottawa Senators in our nation’s capital. It’s a rare mid-day game, so why not gather up a few friends and head on over to your local sports bar to root, root, root for the home team. Sports bars like Underdogs and Hat Trick’s will definitely have the game on at least one of their dozens of dedicated screens, so you won’t miss a minute of the action.
Kim Adams: Earth Wagons

If you’re up for some high culture, head over to the Winnipeg Art Gallery/Qaumajuq. This weekend you’ll find an installation by Kim Adams called Earth Wagons. This imaginative collection features narrative vignettes composed of miniature model components. These 3-D collages depict precarious worlds where comfort and chaos compete for your attention.
Earth Wagons is on all weekend long at the WAG-Qaumajuq.
Bird feeder workshop

Feeling crafty? Then the Oak Hammock Marsh Wetland Discovery Centre’s Bird Feeder Workshop is the place for you. You’ll learn everything you need to know about Manitoba’s winter birds and how to lure them to your yard with their favorite foods.
There is a limit to the number of bird feeders that can be made during the workshop, so if you’re interested, don’t hesitate to register. All equipment is provided.
Legs

Legs is a collaborative short film based on Jennifer Still’s poem of the same title. This is the film’s Canadian debut, and features contributions from Winnipeg musician Christine Fellows and Winnipeg visual artist Chantel Mierau. It is an award-winning short film that looks at life’s undoings.
Legs can be seen on weekdays between 12 PM and 4 PM at Gallery 1C03 until February 16.
