6 Rumor's Headliners Making It Big
This week stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze hosted Saturday Night Live, making him the latest in a list of Rumor's alumni to host the legendary late night sketch comedy show.
His monologue was classic Nate, with his matter-of-fact self-deprecation and sarcastic reasonability. It was a homerun for one of our favorite comics, and he’s not the only past Rumor’s headliner to be making some serious waves.
Today, Rumor’s Comedy Club takes a look at some of the comics that have made a splash since their first appearance at our club.
Rumor’s comedians making it big
This week, Nate Bargatze joined the exclusive club of comedians who performed at Rumor’s before they went on to host SNL — a list that includes names like Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Bob Saget. Here’s a look at Nate appearing on the Rumor’s Comedy Cast all the way back in 2015.
Saturday Night Live is known as America’s cultural thermometer, and hosting the show is a sure sign that you’ve made it big in the USA. We’re excited to see Nate getting all this well-deserved attention. Here’s some other past Rumor’s headliners who have made it to the next level.
Andrew Schulz
Eight years ago, Rumor’s was pleased to introduce Winnipeg to an up-and-coming New York comedian by the name of Andrew Schulz.
Back then, Andrew was a young comic with big dreams. Today, he’s one of the biggest touring comedians in the world, recently selling out the world-famous Madison Square Garden thanks to his work ethic and creativity, which allowed him to find his niche on social media.
Sam Morril
One of the absolute best headliners we’ve had the pleasure of booking is Sam Morril, the sardonic stand-up from NYC. Sam is the definition of “stand-up comedian”: smooth, sharp, and free-wheeling, with a smidge of pessimism, and a boat-load of confidence.
Since appearing on the Rumor’s Comedy Cast, Sam has released four stand-up specials and has appeared on Netflix’s That’s My Time with David Letterman. Along with Mark Normand, Morril is co-host of the popular podcast, We Might Be Drunk, and at the time of writing, Sam was preparing for a big show at the Theatre at MSG.
Mark Normand
Few comedians can make it to the next level on the strength of their stand-up act alone, but Mark Normand is one of those comics. A joke-writing machine, Normand has established himself as one of the most prolific and fun comedians working today. And he’s become very popular because of it.
Mark Normand has been a long-time friend of Rumor's Comedy Club
Since gracing our stage back in the mid 2010s, Mark has exploded in popularity, selling out theaters all over North America, and embarking on a European Tour in 2023.
Joe List
Anxious and self-loathing, Joe List bares all while on stage. His style of brutal honesty is what led us to book him eight years ago, and now it’s making him one of the top names in stand-up comedy.
He is the co-host of three podcasts — Mindful Metal Jacket, Joe and Raanan Talk Movies, and Tuesdays with Stories — and he’s released a new stand-up special every year for the past three years, all of which are available on YouTube. In 2022 List co-wrote and starred in his debut feature film, Fourth of July, which was produced by long-time friend Louis CK.
Tom Segura
Tom Segura is reaching a new level of success thanks to the popularity of his Netflix stand-up specials, and his podcast Two Bears, One Cave, co hosted by The Machine writer and star, Bert Kreischer. And we absolutely love that the world is now seeing what Rumor’s got to see over a decade ago.
Segura’s storytelling style of comedy has made him massively popular, but before he was a household name, he headlined our club a few times. One time, while in Winnipeg, Segura hooked up with some Winnipeg Comedians to be a guest on their local late night-style television show, The Week Thus Far.
While generally speaking, Tom has always been a fan favorite here at Rumor’s, there was one bizarrely off night that didn’t go according to plan. Tom actually talks about having a rough set at Rumor’s on his Podcast, Your Mom’s House, including actual audio from the now infamous set. Here Tom talks about the experience on The Honey Dew with Ryan Sickler:
K. Trevor Wilson
You might know K. Trevor Wilson better as Squirrely Dan from the hit Crave series, Letterkenny. It’s been exciting to watch K. Trev grow over the years. After all, he’s been coming to Rumor’s since before Letterkenny started airing. Since then, he’s come back to Rumor’s a number of times, recording two albums in the process. He’ll be back at the club again this November 9–11. Here’s a clip of Wilson talking about Letterkenny on the Rumor’s Comedy Cast right before it debuted on Crave.
