10 Stand-Up Specials to Watch Out For
It’s become increasingly clear that we’re in the middle of a comedy boom. More and more comedians are being discovered on social media and that’s led to more touring comics and more stand-up specials on streaming sites.
Today, Winnipeg’s best comedy club — Rumor’s — is listing all the up-coming stand-up specials to watch out for in the coming year.
Take a look!
Nate Bargatze
Hot off hosting Saturday Night Live for the second time, Nate Bargatze is back to what he does best - stand-up comedy. The Tennessee Kid's had a big couple of years, and we've got high expectations for this new hour which drops on Netflix on Christmas Eve (December 24).
Here’s Nate on the Rumor’s ComedyCast before he got famous:
Matteo Lane
He's a classically trained opera singer and an accomplished oil painter, but Matteo Lane’s preferred medium is stand-up. He'll be recording a Hulu special this month, and we'll probably get to see the finished product sometime in 2025.
Fortune Feimster
We still don't have a launch date, but Fortune Feimster did tape her third Netflix special in Seattle back in April, and the streamer has mentioned a 2024 release, so we must be getting close.
Adam Ray
Fans of Adam Ray are already familiar with his Dr. Phil parody in which he interviews special guests and talks with the audience. It’s one of the most popular shows at the Comedy Store, and soon to be one of the most popular comedies on Netflix. For the special, Ray will interview the real Dr. Phil as well as other special guests Patton Oswalt, Rumor’s headliner Jay Pharoah, and Gollum.
Michelle Buteau
This year Netflix and chill might be a great choice for New Year's Eve, especially since Michelle Buteau is dropping her new special - A Buteau-ful Mind - on December 31st.
Anthony Jeselnik
The crown prince of darkness, Anthony Jeselnik, has been testing and honing new material on his Bones and All world tour for the past year and a half. Now, Jeselnik is releasing a brand new special entitled - you guessed it - Bones and All. This new hour of darkness drops on Netflix November 26th.
John Mulaney
It's not quite a special, but…
At last year's Netflix is a Joke Festival, Everybody's favorite man-boy John Mulaney did a six episode test run of a talk show called Everybody's in L.A. Now Netflix has greenlit Mulaney for a live talk show. We're not sure what it'll be called, but we're excited to see it.
Jim Gaffigan
Netflix isn't the only streamer bringing the funny. Hulu is making a big push to establish itself as a place for stand up comedy. Seven-time Grammy nominee Jim Gaffigan leads the way with a new special available on Hulu (Disney+ internationally) this November.
Roy Wood Jr.
Speaking of Hulu, the streamer is getting ready to release Roy Wood Jr.’s latest spesh. The title and exact release date of the project are yet to be determined, but it's all part of Hulu 's effort to plant a flag in the stand up comedy world.
Ricky Gervais
Creator of The Office and all around cheeky monkey, Ricky Gervais is heading back to the stage for his new stand up special entitled Mortality. The special will be filmed during his tour of the same name, and will find a home on Netflix.
