Top 10 Canadian Comedians for Canada Day
Canada Day is upon us, so this week Rumor’s Comedy Club is looking at the top 10 Canadian stand-up comedians plying their craft today.
These 10 comedians have developed unique voices that contribute to the diversity of the Canadian comedy landscape. We’re lucky to have these comics in our country, and Rumor’s is lucky to have many of them grace our stage when the come through Winnipeg.
So, without further ado, here’s the Top 10 Canadian Comedians. Happy Canada Day!
Jon Dore

Equal parts daring and laid-back, Jon Dore’s blend of absurdity and everyday observations defies convention. His live shows are a mix of well-written theatrics and off-the-cuff riffs, making for a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-seen-again experience. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Jon Dore will show you that that’s not true.
Jon is a fan-favourite here at Rumor’s, and we’re looking forward to having him back again real soon.
Sean LeComber

Sharp, observational humour with an everyman relatability. That’s the best way of describing Edmonton comedian Sean LeComber. His knack for turning the mundane into the hilarious has made him a standout on the Canadian comedy scene, and many fellow comedians point to Sean as the funniest comic in Canada.
Paul Rabliauskas

Incorporating his Indigenous background into his vibrant storytelling style, Paul Rabliauskas has established himself as a rising star in Canadian comedy. Paul draws on his own personal experiences in comedy and on “the rez” to help him explore universal themes in a unique way.
His television show, Acting Good, is based on his own life experiences growing up in a northern Manitoba reservation, and is currently in production on its third season.
Debra DiGiovanni
Deb DiGiovanni’s self-deprecating humour and rapid-fire delivery have made her one of Canada’s most beloved comedians. Her shows are like being a passenger in an Uber driven by a crazy lady who is just barely in control of both herself and the car.
Steph Tolev
Unfiltered and brutally honest, Steph Tolev is making a name for herself internationally. The self-proclaimed “Filth Queen” gets down and dirty with her audiences, often using physicality and facial expressions to drive home the type of riotous performances she’s become known for. Steph has been touring tirelessly, opening for Bill Burr on his 2022 North American arena tour, and embarking on her own tours of comedy clubs and theatres across North America.
Steph came by Rumor’s back in March, and it was an absolute blast — especially when her good friend Deb DiGiovanni dropped in for a spot.
Ivan Decker

Comparisons to Jerry Seinfeld and John Mulaney are apt, but, when it comes to Ivan Decker, they don’t tell the whole story. He’s polished, charming, and cerebral, which is why his 2018 album, I Wanted to Be a Dinosaur, won the Juno award for Comedy Album of the Year.
Ivan has performed all over North America and Australia, and he can often be heard on the hit CBC Radio program The Debaters. He’s been named a “Comic to Watch” by TBS, and his latest special, Popcorn, can be streamed right now on YouTube.
K. Trevor Wilson

Known as “the Man Mountain of Comedy,” K. Trevor Wilson undermines his towering stature with a gentle and warm delivery, creating one of the most loveable on-stage personas in stand-up. K-Trev’s act is comedic storytelling at its finest, as he paints vivid pictures with nothing but a robust vocabulary. It’s like watching old home movies with your coolest cousin.
K-Trev is a regular here at Rumor’s Comedy Club. In fact, he’s recorded two of his stand-up albums here at our comedy club in Winnipeg, and one of them — Sorry! (A Canadian Album) — was even nominated for a Juno!
Sophie Buddle

Sophie Buddle is like a little-miss-perfect-next-door type if she got an emergency mouth transplant from a sailor. The things she talks about would make an adult film director blush. And that’s what makes her so dang popular. She’s the voice of many modern young women who are sick of being represented one-dimensionally. She can be brash and irreverent, sure, but that’s not necessarily unbecoming of a lady these days, and younger audiences love her for it.
Brittany Lyseng

A former tradesperson from Calgary, Brittany Lyseng’s act is very much like a construction worker sharing stories at lunch. Sometimes it's outrageous, sometimes it’s disgusting, sometimes there’s swears, but it’s always hilarious.
Brittany’s straightforward, no-nonsense style, combined with her blue-collar background has made her a perfect fit for Roast Battle Canada, on which she appeared in seasons one and two. Her debut, Going Up!, debuted at #1 on Apple Music in 2019.
Chris Locke

Chris Locke is like a cartoon character come to life. His absurd brand of stand-up comedy is like a philosophical treatise written by a dad in the grips of a fever dream. But, don’t worry, Chris isn’t sick, it’s just how he sees the world at all times.
Chris blew the roof off the place when he headlined Rumor’s back in January. The only thing that will keep us from having him back is if he enters another plane of existence, which, believe us, he’s probably searching for.
