Winnipeg Beer Festival
If you’re a beer lover it’s time to hop to it. The Winnipeg Beer Festival, that is.
Winnipeg’s craft beer scene is growing and you can get a taste of what’s going on at the 6th annual Winnipeg Beer Festival. The gathering of local brewers features food trucks and live music, to compliment the plethora of local beers, ciders, and spirits on hand for sampling.
The Winnipeg Beer Festival is happening at Le Patio, 340 Prevencher Blvd. from August 11 to August 13.
Folklorama
Winnipeg’s multicultural festival has been a mainstay of Winnipeg summers since the first Folklorama was held in 1970. The annual celebration of of Winnipeg’s multicultural mosaic continues this weekend with all of your favorite pavilions in full effect. Treat yourself to food and music from across the globe at one of 40 pavilions located across Winnipeg.

The Brazilian pavilion (RBC Convention Centre): known for captivating latin dance numbers and late night dance parties.

The Celtic Ireland pavilion (696 Archibald St.): known for Riverdance-style dance numbers and pints of Guiness.

Italian pavilion (1055 Wilkes Ave.): known for pizza and gelato.

Spirit of Ukraine pavilion (2050 Chevrier Blvd): known for pierogies, vodka, and the Ukrainian national dance, the hopak.
Winnipeg Tattoo Convention
Body art fans will love the Winnipeg Tattoo Convention, featuring over 275 world-class tattoo artists. Check out some awesome tattoo art, or get inked-up yourself by one of the best tattoo artists in the world. There’s a beer gardens on site, and live entertainment featuring great local acts like Jess Rae, Romi Mayes, and Rusty Robot.
The Winnipeg Tattoo Convention is located at the Red River Exhibition Grounds, and runs from August 11 to August 13.
SB19
Calling all A’TINs! Filipino pop sensations SB19 descend on Winnipeg on Sunday, August 13 at the Club Regent Events Centre. The Tilaluha singers are the first Filipino group to crack the Billboard Social 50 charts, and are currently in the midst of their world tour in support of their new album Pagtatag.
Burt Block Party
The Burton Cummings Theatre Block Party is back with two weekends of live music. On Friday, catch the Strumbellas with supporting acts Stars and Novillero. Then on Saturday you can see legendary punk bands Billy Talent and Winnipeg’s own Comeback Kid along with Miesha and the Spanks.
WAG Free Sunday
This Sunday, August 13 is Canada Life Free Sunday at the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq. The WAG has played host to a number of notable exhibits from renowned artists, including Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali, and is the permanent home of the world’s largest Inuit art collection, with over 14,000 sculptures, carvings, paintings, and more.
The Forks
Here’s three things you can do at the Forks this weekend:
1) Free skateboarding lessons. Legendary local skate shop, SK8, is offering free skateboarding lessons from 12PM to 2PM at the Plaza at the Forks on Saturday August 12. Skaters of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to come out and learn how to surf pavement.
If you don’t have your own skateboard, you can borrow one from the friendly SK8 crew! You just need to bring your own helmet.
2) Children’s Museum. If you have little ones in tow, you can stimulate their brains and dissipate some of their boundless energy at the Children’s Museum. It’s open Saturday and Sunday from 9:30AM to 4:30PM.
3) Soapbox Science. This meeting of the minds brings together leading non-binary and women scientists to help highlight their contributions in their various scientific fields. The aim of this event is to provide a platform for women in the STEM sector (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and help breakdown traditional barriers that discourage women and girls from entering these academic areas of study.
Sagehill Stables
Looking for something to do with toddlers in Winnipeg? Why not take your tot down to Sagehill Stables to meet Zip, Sagehill Stables’ beloved miniature horse. Your little one will be able to get up-close and personal with Zip as Sagehill staff teach them how to groom Zip before taking them for a miniature horse ride.
Your child must be under 50 lbs to be able to ride Zip. Older siblings can join in on the grooming, but cannot ride if they exceed 50 lbs.
