Best Murals in Winnipeg

From hockey legends and comedy idols, to neighborhood heroes, Winnipeg has murals commemorating just about everything worth honoring.

If you’re looking for things to do in Winnipeg this summer, Rumor’s Comedy Club — the best comedy club in Winnipeg — has compiled this list of murals worth tracking down.

Zoohky

Winnipeg’s West End is a culturally vibrant community full of wonderful restaurants and recognizable characters. So, you have to really stand out to be immortalized in a mural.

Walter Zielke Ruesch, better known as Zoohky, was a West End mainstay, fixing up old electronics and toys and donating them to local families. When Zoohky passed, he was memorialized in a three story mural on the side of the building where he lived.

After the mural was painted, many locals noticed the mural didn't include Zoohky 's bicycle -TK he was never seen without it. So, at the community's request the Zoohky's bike was added in!

Adam Beach on Location

You know him from his roles in hollywood films like Smoke Signals, Suicide Squad, or the hit television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. But, did you know that Adam Beach is from Winnipeg?

This mural located near the corner of Ellice Ave and Sherbrook St. tells you everything you need to know. Adam grew up near the corner of Ellice Ave and Agnes St., just two blocks from the location of the mural.

Bill Norrie: Legacy of Leadership

Also located on Ellice St., this massive mural honors the 39th mayor of Winnipeg, Bill Norrie. A Rhodes Scholar and a recipient of the Order of Canada, Norrie was instrumental in the redevelopment of The Forks as we know it today.

The West End is packed with great murals, and if you’re looking for things to do in Winnipeg, you might want to sign up for a West End mural tour.

En Masse

While some murals cover an entire wall, this one covers an entire building. Created collaboratively by multiple artists in 2017, this mural, called En Mass, completely transformed the face of the New West Hotel on Main Street.

Mending

This colorful creation sits at the corner of Main St. and Sutherland Ave. waiting to welcome you to Winnipeg’s North End.

Billy Mosienko

What happens when you score the fastest hat trick in NHL history? Your hometown makes a mural in your honor. And that’s exactly what Winnipeg has done for Winnipeg hockey legend Billy Mosienko, who scored three goals in the span of 21 seconds way back in 1952.

If you want a fun family activity in Winnipeg, check out the Mosienko mural, and then head inside Billy Mosienko lanes for a game or two of bowling.

Polar bear garage

After being tapped to head a mural festival in Churchill, Manitoba, local artist Kal Barteski practiced on her garage door. The result is the envy of the neighborhood. So, everybody asked her to do the same to their garage door.

The Wolseley neighborhood backlane full of arctic themed garage door murals is a Winnipeg gem.

A Man Called Intrepid

He was the inspiration for super-spy, James Bond — and he was born in Winnipeg. This mural details Sir William Stephenson’s life as a soldier, industrialist, film magnate, and international spy.

The Murals at Rumor’s Comedy Club

Rumor’s Comedy Club has three murals. There’s one featuring a kooky cast of characters in the hallway between our washrooms, and one in our lobby that’s perfect for taking selfies with your favorite comic.

But the most epic mural at Rumor’s is the one facing the showroom, depicting some of the biggest names to have graced our stage, from Chris Rock to Jerry Seinfeld. It is both a commemoration of the 40 years of laughs that Winnipeg’s best comedy club has brought to the city, and a promise to continue bringing the best names in comedy to the YWG.

We’ve got a lot of great names scheduled to appear in our 40th anniversary year, including Kyle Kinane, Sam Tallent, and Tom Green. It’s going to be great, so check out our upcoming events list and get your tickets online or by calling 204-488-4520.
