6 More Times Winnipeg Got Name-Dropped on TV
As Winnipeggers we tend to go through life thinking we’re invisible. And then, BAM! We hear our town shown or mentioned in our favourite TV show, and we feel seen!
So, Rumor’s — the best comedy club in Winnipeg — has compiled another list of shows in which our great city gets a mention.

1. "How I Met Your Mother"
In the hit sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," we find out that Barney Stinson’s Grandmother was born in Manitoba, making Barney one-quarter Canadian, to his absolute horror.
2. "The X-Files"
Winnipeg gets a mention in season one, episode nine of The X-Files. NASA Mission Control gets some help from an astronomer from Winnipeg as they scramble to solve a sabotage that threatens the lives of astronauts on a mission.

3. "Cheers"
In the classic sitcom "Cheers", spunky server Carla Tortelli meets Boston Bruins goalie Guy “Eddie” LeBec. Carla is such a fan that she recites the synopsis of his entire career by heart, including his stint in goal for the Winnipeg Jets.
4. "The Sopranos"
Meadow Soprano, daughter of gangster and overprotective father, Tony Soprano name drops the Winnipeg Film Festival (never heard of it) as she tries to convince her parents to let her go traveling in Europe for a year.
5. "NewsRadio"
Legendary Canadian comedian Dave Foley takes a lighthearted swing at our town in the 90s sitcom, NewsRadio, when Matthew (Andy Dick) tells Dave about his trip to Japan.

6. "In the Know"
Speaking of radio, Mike Judge is back with a very funny stop-motion animated series called In the Know about a publicly funded NPR radio station. In episode three, listeners are falling sick due to radio host Lauren's voice. His producer poses as a caller from Winnipeg to reassure him.
